  • Alastair Cook Defends Shubman Gill After Ex-England Star Asks Tough Questions: “Ben Stokes…”

The intrigue is with Shubman Gill, who’s a very inexperienced skipper. How’s he going to come back from that? He’s got Ravindra Jadeja and Karun Nair, who are in their 30s. So he’s got experience in his team. It’s great having a young team that he’s got. But tactically he’s reactive rather than proactive in the stuff that he’s doing,” Lloyd said on Sky Sports’ Stick to Cricket podcast.

Cook responded by saying that it takes time for a team to gel under a new captain.

“When you take over a team, there will always be a phase when the team gets used to the new leader. This happened with (Ben) Stokes when he came in. It took a while (for England players) to get used to him when he came in and said, ‘We’re going to try and smash every ball’,” replied Cook.

Despite vice-captain Rishabh Pant scoring centuries in each innings of the opening Tests and other key batters in openers KL RahulYashasvi Jaiswal and Gill himself hitting their respective tons, India failed to get to bigger totals in both the innings and also dropped crucial catches. This is the first time in history of Indian cricket that a team lost a Test after five individual hundreds being scored by its batters.

India collapsed from 430/3 in the first innings to 471 losing seven wickets for 41 runs and in the second, they crumbled to 364 all-out from 333 for 4, losing six wickets for 31 runs.

On Day 5, India failed to defend a fourth-innings target of 371 under overcast conditions, with England comfortably chasing it down with five wickets to spare

  • Let Bibi Go”: Trump Defends Netanyahu Again Over Corruption Trial

It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu. He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran,” Mr Trump said, referring to the US strikes on three key Iranian strikes on June 22.

“Importantly, he is right now in the process of negotiating a Deal with Hamas, which will include getting the Hostages back. How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc),” he wrote.

Mr Trump called it a “political witch hunt” and said it was “very similar” to the one that he was “forced to endure”. The 79-year-old was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in May 2024 in a case related to hush money payments to adult actress Stormy Daniels.

“This travesty of “Justice” will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations. In other words, it is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu,” he said.

“The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this,” Mr Trump said.

“We just had a Great Victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm – And this greatly tarnishes our Victory. LET BIBI GO, HE’S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO,” he added.

    Trump’s Second Post Defending Netanyahu

It was Donald Trump’s second post in three days defending Benjamin Netanyahu. On Thursday, he said he was “shocked” to hear that Israel, which is “strongly” led by Mr Netanyahu, is continuing its “ridiculous” witch hunt against their “great wartime” Prime Minister.

  • Those Who Fought Emergency Should Always Be Remembered”: PM Modi On Mann Ki Baat

    New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday played remarks of leading anti-Emergency politicians in his monthly radio broadcast to slam the then Congress government for atrocities on people, and said they should always be remembered as it inspires people to stay alert to keep the Constitution strong.

Speaking in his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, PM Modi said those who imposed the Emergency not only murdered the Constitution but also made judiciary their puppet.

His condemnation of the Congress for the Emergency-era excesses without naming the party of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi came amid an ongoing bitter war of words between the ruling BJP and opposition parties, which have claimed that an undeclared Emergency prevails under the PM Modi government.

PM Modi said people were tortured on a large scale during the Emergency for the 21-month period between 1975 and 1977. There are many examples which cannot be forgotten, he added.

He played bits of speeches of former prime minister Morarji Desai and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and former deputy PM Jagjivan Ram related to the period.

George Fernandes was shackled, he noted and recalled that anyone could be arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) at that time.

Students were harassed and freedom of expression throttled, he added.

Thousands of people were arrested and subjected to inhuman treatment, but it is the strength of Indians that they did now bow and accept any compromise with democracy, he said.

People finally won, the Emergency was lifted and those who imposed it lost, he said.

Noting that the 50th anniversary of Emergency was commemorated recently as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’, he said those who fought against it must always be remembered.

The Emergency was imposed on June 25, 1975 by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
